Anti-inductivity

  1. anti-inductivity is one of the most interesting concepts I've come across. I'd like to collect examples (Darwin-style!) of anti-inductivity to getter wrap my head around it

  2. Just read The Phatic And The Anti-Inductive | Slate Star Codex

  3. Examples

    1. stock market

    2. the dating market

  4. Oh. So in general, anti-inductivity occurs in games that have adverseriality. The more adverserial the game, the more anti-inductive it could be

  5. Chess seems like it has very little anti-inductivity, but this is a mistaken read of the situation, confusing the letter with the spirit

    1. You could misdirect an opponent if you understand their psychology well enough such that your very moves can make them focus on responding to one cluster of strategies, that leaves them vulnerable to another cluster

    2. The time you take to respond, the parts of the board you look at, the emotions you supposedly reveal in reaction to your own thoughts or the other person's moves, all of it is read by the opponent and therefore affects the opponent, and therefore can be a channel of influence

  6. Epistemology in adverserial / mixed motive games feels somewhat loopy

  7. Most facets of social skills seems to involve anti-inductivity of some sort
