German Comprehensible Input resources

Posted on 2025-07-23

Here's a list of resources I have used (or will use) for learning German via comprehensible input. I've sorted them such that the resources listed earlier on this page are ones I recommend the most.

I'll update this list as time passes and I come across any other useful resources.

  • Natürlich German
Probably one of the oldest and the most comprehensive resources for learning German via Comprehensible Input. The video creator makes videos that are interesting and relevant for someone who wants to better understand German culture (which is quite important since the language is just a part of what it takes to effectively interact with people in a culture that is extremely different from the one you grew up in).
There are playlists of videos grouped by difficulty, from those for beginners to "Advanced" language learners. I have worked my way through the Beginner and Intermediate difficulty playlists, and have yet to work my way through the Advanced level playlist.
  • Deutsch mit Lari
I have only seen a few videos from this Youtube channel but the ones I did see, even if geared for A1/A2 level learners (beginners), they were engaging and seemed to be worth using as a way of immersion.
  • Deutsch lernen mit der DW
They have a variety of playlists of videos for different difficulty levels. I started out with the Nico's Weg playlist because a Turkish girl at the local university recommended I use it for immersion. Its engaging enough.
  • Tagesschau in Einfacher Sprache
An extremely valuable source of comprehensible input, especially for vocabulary and topics that isn't common in the Youtube channels listed above, such as contemporary politics (eg. how to pronounce "Macron").
You'll want to at least have gotten comfortable with Näturlich German's Intermediate level videos before starting this one.
  • Peppa Pig (Deutsch)
At one point in time, when I felt a huge aversion to watching the Natürlich German Beginner videos due to their difficulty, I decided to watch Peppa Pig in German. It was useful, somewhat, but the animal noises are incredibly irritating, especially the pig grunting that Peppa's family does. I am very glad to not watch it again.
